ANAHEIM — A team of girls from St. Hedwig School in Los Alamitos took home first place honors in Cornelia Connelly School’s annual Koala Bowl academic trivia competition Nov. 20.

Hosted by Connelly’s National Honor Society, the competition attracted a record number of girls from eight area schools: St. Joachim, St. Mark’s Lutheran, St. Joseph (Placentia), Pegasus, St. Irenaeus, St. Justin Martyr, St. Hedwig and Leona Jackson Middle School.

Koala Bowl categories range from impromptu speech and debate to social studies to science. The students also play a pop culture game of Jeopardy! at the end of the day. Topics and questions are keyed to grade level. The competition is open to girls in grades 6 through 8.
