Anaheim-based St. Catherine’s Academy (SCA), an all-boys’ Catholic School with a military tradition, hosted a Playdate event for the public on May 31. The event took place at the school’s Anaheim campus and provided an opportunity for young learners interested in SCA’s Early Education program to experience a day as a ‘cadet.’ The school welcomed the fire chief and staff from Anaheim Rescue and Fire and several boys paired up with each fire staff member for a day of fun and learning.

More than a dozen boys ages 4-5 participated in an exciting afternoon with fire department staffers. The boys spent time making a healthy snack, building cars, participating in outdoor play and interacting with the Anaheim Fire and Rescue team to learn more about their careers and the important work that they do.

“It is always a pleasure to have Anaheim’s servicemen and women visit our school to speak to our students,” said Sister Johnellen, OP, SCA’s principal and administrator. “Our event was open to families of young boys who are interested in a Catholic school education with a military tradition to learn more about what it would be like to be a student. Our school is the oldest elementary school in Orange County and has been serving the community for nearly 130 years.”

St. Catherine’s Academy, founded in 1889 by the Dominican Sisters of Mission San Jose, is an independent Catholic school for boys in transitional kindergarten through 8th grade. The school offers both day and resident programs.
