Connelly alumna, teacher, and SHCJ sister Celebrates 50 years in Religious Profession

Sr. Susan Slater, SHCJ ‘65, recently celebrated her golden jubilee in the religious profession. She was recognized in a special Mass on August 25, 2018, at the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Church. Sr. Susan’s relationship with Cornelia Connelly School in Anaheim began as a student at the all-girls, independent, Catholic high school. She was part of the first graduating class in 1965, some of whom were present at the celebratory Mass. She later became a sister with the SHCJ (Society of Holy Child Jesus), and even returned to teach at Connelly from 1974-1978.  

Sr. Susan Slater’s 50 years in the religious profession has spanned many ministries and states, including the following:

  • Washington Theological Union – Silver Spring, MD (Instructor & Supervisor)
  • Archdiocese of Los Angeles, CA (Coordinator of Adult Religious Education)
  • SHCJ American Province – Drexel Hill, PA (Councilor & Provincial)
  • St. Stephen Martyr Church – Monterey Park, CA (Pastoral Associate & Parish Life Director)
  • Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Church – Pasadena, CA (Pastoral Associate)

    Dear Susan! Wow! I can’t believe it has been fifty years since we were both in the novitiate!!! It seems like it was just yesterday! I always saw you as a thoughtful, reflective person.
