Among those most vulnerable during the current pandemic are those in correctional facilities; both inmates and jail staff. The Diocese of Orange Department of Restorative Justice/Detention Ministry, under the leadership of Director Fred LaPuzza, are working hard to support them.
Teaming with the sisters of The Lovers of the Holy Cross, the department worked to create and donate 225 protective COVID-19 masks to the correctional medical staff, inmates and those in the juvenile detention facilities.
Together with an army of volunteers LaPuzza’s department gathered donations of games and crafts supplies that were delivered to foster care facilities to help keep children learning and busy during the stay-at-home order.
Remotely, LaPuzza and staff streamed Stations of the Cross services and Easter Sunday Mass from their offices into the juvenile detention facilities.
