Young students at St. Catherine of Siena Parish School in Laguna Beach got a glimpse of what one former student accomplished after leaving the school, planting the seeds of what their futures might look like. Mimi Krogius, now known as former U.S. Representative Mimi Walters, was honored as the school’s 2019 Alumna of the Year.

As a member of the House leadership team, Walters worked on key issues including legislation, policy and messaging for the House Republicans.

The UCLA graduate started her career in local politics while serving on the Laguna Niguel City Council and as mayor in 2000. Walters also served on a number of boards.

Her early foundation, however, was formed at St. Catherine of Siena where she and her five siblings attended school. All 19 of the Krogius grandchildren have been baptized at the parish.

“Mimi spoke to the students about utilizing the virtues and values they are taught at Saint Catherine of Siena School, while serving the greater good,” said Deborah Loughran, associate superintendent of development for Orange Catholic Schools. “She inspired the students with her personal stories of success and challenges. Mimi’s family legacy of Catholic education is a true gift to our community.”
