DIOCESE OF ORANGE RESPONDS TO STATE ATTORNEY GENERAL SUBPOENA IN ONGOING REVIEW OF DOCUMENTS

By Statement from the Diocese of Orange     12/12/2019

The Diocese of Orange acknowledges the receipt of a subpoena from the California Attorney General’s office for additional documents in connection with the AG’s ongoing inquiry that began last May, related to eradicating abuse of minors.

The Diocese of Orange long has dedicated itself to make certain that a dark chapter in its past never recur. It has done so by taking aggressive, caring and deliberate measures to ensure that the interests, safety and well-being of young people are always paramount, above all else.

Under the leadership of Bishop Kevin Vann, the Diocese of Orange has created an environment where abuse is repugnant and intolerable. It therefore welcomes the AG’s subpoena as part of its ongoing review of documents. The Diocese of Orange views the AG as a partner, not an adversary, in the mutual goal to extinguish abuse; it will strictly comply with its legal obligations; and it appreciates the opportunity to highlight its diligence and efforts in care of the faithful.
