‘Breakthrough’ screening set for April 4

A private screening of the film “Breakthrough” will take place Thursday, April 4, at 7 p.m. in the Cultural Center’s Freed Theater on the campus of Christ Cathedral.

“Breakthrough” is based on the inspirational true story of one mother’s unfaltering love in the face of impossible odds. When Joyce Smith’s adopted son John falls through an icy Missouri lake, all hope seems lost. But as John lies lifeless, Joyce refuses to give up. Her steadfast belief inspires those around her to continue to pray for John’s recovery, even in the face of every case history and scientific prediction.

From producer DeVon Franklin (“Miracles from Heaven”) and director Roxann Dawson, adapted for the screen by Grant Nieporte (“Seven Pounds”) from Joyce Smith’s own book, the film is an enthralling reminder that faith and love can create a mountain of hope, and sometimes even a miracle.

A 6:15 p.m. reception with light appetizers and beverages will precede the 7 p.m. screening. For more information and to reserve your seats: tinyurl.com/y59mb4dh

OC Catholic newsletter

Subscribe to keep current on news within the Diocese of Orange and beyond.

OC Catholic, the official newspaper of the Diocese of Orange, is published weekly and distributed to all parishes, Catholic centers and schools within the diocese. Despite having expanded feature coverage and increasing the number of pages in each print issue, we still don’t have room to publish all the inspiring stories and news happening right here in our own diocese.

OCCatholic.com allows us to publish articles and information on our website as it happens. Each week, the best stories and most newsworthy articles are sent to our database of subscribers via the OC Catholic newsletter, our digital platform for communicating with our readers.

Now, our subscribers can enjoy reader rewards. Beginning this week, each OC Catholic newsletter will include a keyword. Subscribers may use that key word to enter to win exciting prizes. Just go to occatholic.com, enter the keyword and you’ll be entered to win any of the following:

  • Two VIP tickets to the 2019 Doheny Blues Festival, May 18-19
  • A two-night stay at the AC Marriott Hotel in Irvine
  • A $100 gift card to Wahoo’s Fish Taco

Each week for six weeks three lucky winners will be selected.
