COMMUNITY SOLIDARITY MARCH AND SUMMIT SET FOR AUG. 13

March and summit are an effort to unite against racism and violence

By STAFF     7/27/2016

Diocese of Orange Bishop Kevin Vann is uniting with Pastor Mark Whitlock, of Christ Our Redeemer AME Church, to march on Saturday, Aug. 13, in solidarity through the streets of Irvine in a show of their commitment to end racism and senseless violence.

The dual event, a march and a summit to which all are invited, is a response to the statement by the U.S. Bishops: “Any politics of human dignity must seriously address issues of racism.”

The march will begin at 11 a.m at Christ Our Redeemer AME Church and is expected to end by 1 p.m. All parishes are urged to bring a delegation and a banner from their parish.

Following the march will be a summit at Christ Our Redeemer Church to address the issue of racism in our society, with the hope of finding ways to resolve differences and avoid further violence. The summit will begin at 2:30 p.m. and is expected to conclude by 4:30 p.m.
