Very Rev. Christopher Smith, rector and episcopal vicar of Christ Cathedral, recently joined parishioners and car enthusiasts for a treasured Orange County tradition.
Fr. Smith led the Blessing of the Cars on Saturday, May 4, at the Christ Cathedral Campus. This year’s event was the second annual Blessing of the Cars at the Christ Cathedral Campus. The event started at Holy Family Cathedral more than 25 years ago by Msgr. Douglas Cook. Motor enthusiasts from across Orange County attend to showcase their cars and have them blessed.
“It’s like having a car show with a blessing,” said Harvey Castellon of the Knights of Columbus, who helps organize the event. Along with the blessing by Fr. Smith, the event featured food and live music.
The Blessing of the Cars has grown through the years to include not only cars, but trucks and motorcycles, too.
