ANAHEIM — More than 1,000 people, including Anaheim Mayor Tom Tait, took part in a celebratory procession through the streets of the neighborhood surrounding St. Anthony Claret Church Oct. 26 in honor of the patron saint of the parish, Saint Anthony Mary Claret.

A monstrance that was carried in the procession contained a relic of the 19th century saint, who founded the order of Claretian missionaries and is known as “the spiritual father of Cuba.”

Because of the large size of the procession, some groups of marchers were praying the rosary while others were singing. Several streets were closed to traffic and even parts of busy La Palma Avenue were temporarily blocked off.

Many neighbors joined in beautification efforts to prepare the streets for the procession.
