40TH ANNUAL DAY OF SHARING

Knights of Columbus Celebrate the Intellectually Disabled

By Staff     4/5/2018

The Knights of Columbus of Orange County will hold its annual Day of Sharing for the intellectually disabled at the Speech and Language Development Center in Buena Park on Saturday, April 21. This will be the 40th celebration of this day of carnival fun, food, and camaraderie for friends with intellectual disabilities and their caregivers. This is a free event for our special needs friends and is funded fully by contributions from the Knights.

In the early days of the Orange Diocese, Bishop Johnson charged the Knights of Columbus of Orange County to help him support people with intellectual disabilities throughout our local community. The Day of Sharing has been one of the hallmark programs conducted by the Knights for that purpose.

This year’s festivities will begin with a flag ceremony performed by the Knights of Columbus Color Corps, an invocation, and the singing of the “Star Spangled Banner.” Bishop Vann has been invited to give this year’s invocation. From there, the games begin.

Each Orange County chapter of Knights of Columbus councils send representatives to operate game booths, provide refreshments, present prizes, entertain, and perform the myriad of administrative tasks needed to make the day a success. Knight’s families come to work and enjoy a day of charity and Christian fellowship. Local first responders often provide displays. DJs keep the dancing area active and there are tents for eating as well as just relaxing.

Most importantly, the intellectually disabled have a day to enjoy with their friends in a place where they are safe, accepted and treated as guests of honor.

Guests and caregivers need to register to attend this event. For registration forms and further information, contact Nilo Niccolai at [email protected] or call 714-447-8400.
