Hundreds from the Diocese of Orange gathered in the Arboretum on the campus of Christ Cathedral on Oct. 5 for the celebration of El Señor de los Milagros, the Lord of Miracles.

Centuries ago, in 1655, a great earthquake struck Lima, Peru. Thousands were either killed or left homeless. It is said that church and monastery of Nazarenas and the building of the brotherhood of the Señor de los Milagros (Lord of Miracles), located in the Pachacamilla district, contained a painting of the image of Christ on the Cross. Most of the houses and buildings in the region were destroyed, as was the home of the brotherhood. However, the wall on which the image of Christ hung remained standing and the painting itself was not damaged. In September 1671 the first Mass was celebrated in front of the crucified Christ of Pachacamilla and today the celebration Masses continue.
