MEET DEACON TIM & MICHELLE O’DONOGHUE

LA PURISMA CHURCH, ORANGE

By STAFF     1/6/2017

YEARS MARRIED: 22

CHILDREN: 2

YEARS IN THE DIACONATE: 1 – “I am a rookie!”

HOW THEY MET: “When I was the baseball coach at Tustin HS I would go into Spoons restaurant after games where Michelle was the manager.”

WHAT THEY DO FOR FUN: “Go out to dinner, attend sporting events and do community service projects together.”

HIS ROLE IN THE CHURCH: “I see my position as a deacon to preach the Gospel by word and deed. The defining role of a deacon is to serve others. At our parish I help out with the RCIA program, Homebound ministry, sacraments of marriage, baptisms, funerals, preaching homilies and anything else our pastor asks me to do. I also help out at Juvenile Hall with communion services.”

WHAT DREW HIM TO THE DIACONATE: “I felt in my heart God was calling me to this ministry. My pastor at the time, Father Vincent Pham, and Deacon Tony Bube encouraged me to think about becoming a deacon. As a school principal and coach, I enjoy working with people, so I felt my becoming a deacon might be a good fit.”

FAVORITE SCRIPTURE: Matthew 25: 35-36, 40 — “For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me. The King will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.’”
