The Orange County Wind Ensemble and the Marian Alliance Band perform a May 1 concert featuring some of the world’s most favorite music. Dr. Romeri will be a guest conductor.
The wind ensemble’s members are semi-professional adult musicians from throughout the county. The Marian Alliance Band is comprised of musicians from three Diocesan schools in the heart of Santa Ana: St. Anne’s, St. Joseph and the School of Our Lady.
The 4 p.m. will take place in the Freed Theater in the Cultural Center. It will feature favorite music from all over the world, from the George Gershwin classic “An American in Paris” to an exciting new work from the music director of the Diocese of Granada, composer Angel Lopez Carreno.
Three vocal soloists will offer songs ranging from Puccini’s “Nessun Dorma” to the joyous Louis Armstrong hit, “What A Wonderful World.”
After ensemble conductor Dr. William Nicholls of St. Timothy Church in Laguna Niguel conducts the popular “Variations on a Korean Folk Song,” virtuoso trumpet soloist Tim Shevlin of St. Justin Martyr parish in Anaheim will perform “Grand Russian Fantasia.”
In 2001, Shevlin joined Andy Palomino of Our Lady of the Pilar parish in Santa Ana and Artinger of St. Vincent De Paul parish in Huntington Beach in performing for Pope St. John Paul II in St. Peter’s Square.
The trio will reprise composer Frank Tichelli’s version of “Amazing Grace” at the May 1 event, followed by a rousing rendition of “Alexander’s Ragtime Band.”
