IMMACULATE HEART OF MARY HEALS AFTER SHOOTING

By Douglas Morino     4/2/2020

Bishop Vann celebrated Mass alongside clergy from across Orange County and parishioners at Immaculate Heart of Mary on Thursday, March 5, four days after a gunman was killed by police at the Santa Ana church

“The evil that has come upon us so unexpectedly calls us to turn to God for healing and strength,” Bishop Vann said during his homily at the Mass of Reparation.

A Mass of Reparation is held to atone for sins of others and encourage healing.

About 350 worshippers attended the Mass. Parishioners worked together after the shooting to repair the interior of the church, which was blessed with Holy Water by Bishop Vann during the Mass.

Auxiliary Bishop Freyer, who celebrated the Mass with Bishop Vann and parishioners, thanked Santa Ana police and other first responders for their work, and asked Catholics across Orange County to keep those involved in the incident in their prayers.

“We pray for the repose of the soul of the man who died, as well as for consolation for his family and friends who grieve for him,” Bishop Freyer said. “May we be compassionate and forgiving, Lord, as you are merciful to us.
