DE ANGELIS VOCAL ENSEMBLE TO PERFORM AT CHRIST CATHEDRAL MARCH 10

‘Via Crucis- Reflections on the Way of the Cross’ will grace the Cultural Center at Christ Cathedral

3/6/2017

On Friday, March 10 , at 8:00 p.m., the de Angelis Vocal Ensemble will present a choral concert of music centered upon the Via Crucis at the Cultural Center of Christ Cathedral. The de Angelis Vocal Ensemble has been delighting Orange County audiences the past 12 years, presenting innovative programming that introduces audiences to the beauty of the choral art. This Friday’s program is an exploration of music from Renaissance to contemporary masterworks, using the way of the cross as a catalyst for the theme of this programmatic concert.

Included in the program are seldom-performed works by Orlando Lasso, Claudio Monteverdi, and Anton Bruckner. More contemporary works include music by Francis Poulenc, Kenneth Leighton and Matthew Harris. The ensemble will conclude the evening with the West Coast premiere of Fredrik Sixten’s Alleluia.

Artist Director and Founder, Matthew Gray, began the de Angelis Vocal Ensemble as a way to introduce Southern Californian audiences to the lesser-known, but stunningly beautiful choral works not often presented as live performances. Past programs have included the London version of the Brahms Requiem, a program of music sourced from the California Missions and music from the Mantua Court-the music of Claudio Monteverdi and prominent Jewish composer Solomone Rossi Hebreo.
