Our Lady of Fatima Church in San Clemente has for the last five months been celebrating the 100th anniversary of the apparitions of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Fatima, Portugal. The namesake parish has also been celebrating the 70th anniversary of its founding. Six major events were held to coincide with the dates of the appearances of Our Lady to the children of Fatima.

Over 200 people participated in a prayer walk and BBQ on May 13th that kicked off the celebrations. An International Potluck was held on June 16 at which families celebrated their family’s origins with ethnic dishes. Some 300 people, young and old, enjoyed fireworks and ice cream on July 4. On Aug. 30 the International Pilgrim Virgin Statue of Fatima visited the parish. The event included a procession, crowning, Mass, recitation of the rosary, the Divine Mercy Chaplet, and all-night adoration of the Blessed Sacrament.

On Sept. 23 an art and talent show was held at which parishioners who enjoy painting, drawing, photography, sculpture, singing and dancing will share their talents.

An Evening of Celebration is planned on Friday, Oct. 13, commemorating the 100th anniversary of the Miracle of Fatima in Portugal and the 70th anniversary of Our Lady of Fatima Parish. Activities begin at 5 p.m. with Mass celebrated by Bishop Kevin Vann, followed by cocktails and a catered dinner in McGowan Parish Hall. $30 per person. Tickets are available online at olf.ticketleap.com/OLF100.
