The Orange County chapter of the American Institute of Architects chose the Cultural Center at Christ Cathedral for its annual celebration of excellence. Some 300 architects and others related to the industry gathered on Sept. 14 to honor their own, while acknowledging the great architects that designed the buildings on the campus of Christ Cathedral.

Mark Paone, former AIA OC president, said of the venue, “We can go back in history to the great cathedrals–that was a big advance at that time–and as the cathedrals changed, architects note the subtle changes and how technology along the way kept changing and allowing bigger and bigger cathedrals…”

Jeff Gill, FAIA and executive director, AIA OC, said: “Christ Cathedral has some of the most iconic architecture in Orange County,” noting the three buildings done by architects from three different eras: Richard Meier, Philip Johnson and Richard Neutra.

The evening included a display in the Cultural Center Lobby of all the projects nominated, a cocktail reception in the atrium and the award ceremony, held in the Freed Theater.
